The Return of the JailbreakMe.com Jailbreak

Back in the 1.x days JailbreakMe.com was the simplest way to jailbreak your device. And now comex and Dev-Team have released the latest userland jailbreak which exploits a PDF flaw in MobileSafari. This means you can jailbreak any iOS device, including the iPhone4 on the 4.x firmware. Because the exploit that was used it public I’m sure it won’t be too long until Apple fix the flaw and then a new exploit will have to be used. As always remember to backup your SHSH files so that you can restore to your current firmware and keep on using JailbreakMe.com in the future.

To jailbreak just open up the site JailbreakMe.com and then slide to jailbreak and then just wait. It’s that simple!

iOS 4 Custom Firmware (w/iBooks Fix)

Yesterday I provided you with Custom Firmware Restore files for all the iDevices that support the new update and can be jailbroken. This morning the Dev-Team released an update as it had the same issue as redsn0w to cause a problem with iBooks. Obviously if you don’t intend on using iBooks you don’t need to re-download it but I will be re-uploading the firmwares (without custom boot logos) with the fix for iBooks.

Please read this Dev-Team article before using any of the custom restore files.

Spirit Released for iPhone, iPod Touch & iPad

The day has finally come, comex has released Spirit, the first userland jailbreak since the 1.x era. It runs on the latest iPhone OS firmwares (3.1.2, 3.1.3 and 3.2). Spirit is an untethered jailbreak which comes as great news to many 3rd generation iPod Touch & iPhone 3GS users who have the MC models who were stuck with a tethered jailbreak for months.

It works on all the iDevices but on the iPad, all this is still sort of beta. Some packages in Cydia, not designed for iPad, might screw up your system and require you to restore.

You can download it from SpiritJB.com

App Store Downloads Reach Three Billion

Apple today announced that more than three billion apps have been downloaded from its App Store by iPhone and iPod touch users worldwide. Thats around 5.5 million downloads per day!

iPhone and iPod touch customers in 77 countries worldwide can choose from an incredible range of apps in 20 categories, including games, business, news, sports, health, reference and travel.

iPhone 4G To Have 802.11n WiFi?

A recent job opening which was posted on the Apple website may hint at the possibility of 802.11n WiFi in the next gen iPhone.

It has been suspected that the iPhone 4G would support 802.11n WiFi since the third generation iPod Touch was found to contain the Broadcom BCM4329 chip, capable of 802.11n (but only enabled for 802.11g). The job posting is looking for a software engineer specializing in WiFi protocols to join the iPhone tem.

The job specifications:
* Implementation of 802.11 a/b/g/n & related specifications.
* 802.11i/802.1x Security protocols
* Good understanding of wireless RF technologies & co-existence issues of 802.11 PHYs with other Wireless interfaces like Bluetooth.

N64 Emulator Released For iPhone 3GS & iPod Touch 3G

ZodTTD today released his N64 emulator for the iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3G, a while before expected. A 14-year-old developer had begun work on a N64 emulator, slated for release in Spring but ZodTTD beat him to it.

It is a port of mupen64plus along with Ari64’s ARM Dynarec, and Adventus / Orkin’s OpenGLES GPU. Since the graphics processing unit (GPU) code is written with the OpenGL ES 2.0 specification, it limits the devices able to be used to the iPhone 3gs and iPod Touch 3rd Gen as of the current Apple lineup.

The current version sports:

  • Support for the Wii Remote via Bluetooth;
  • Emulation dynarec fast CPU;
  • Emulation of sound;
  • Download the ROM of games from the same;
  • Using Open GL libraries | ES 2.0;
  • Supports ROM:. N64 and. Z64 and archives. Zip and. Gz

n64iPhone is available now from Cydia.

N64 iPhone Emulator Coming in Spring 2010

A N64 Emulator is the works for the iPhone 3GS and 3rd generation iPod Touch. The emulator called 3G4 has been created by a 14-year-old boy. This could be the first native N64 emulator for the iPhone, however ZodTTD has been working on an emulator for some time, but unfortunately we haven’t heard any news in a long time.

There are of course the usual problems with any project in development such as “duplicate button registers, delay of presses, and crashes when heavy gameplay occurs. ”

The emulator has an expected release of Spring 2010, according to the developer.
