Apple Releases iPhone Firmware & SDK 3.1 Beta

Apple today, released the 3.1 beta for the iPhone firmware and SDK; both the SDK and the firmware are available for Apple iPhone 3G WWDC 2009testing and development to paid members of the iPhone developer program. Although this is pre-release software and details should remain under NDA, some details will leak out soon.

Some wonder why Apple have released the 3.1 Beta so close to the release of 3.0 to the public. Some think that it’s not just bug fixes, as Apple would probably release it as 3.0.1 if so. Apple may have worked out the exploit in which the Dev-Team use to jailbrake devices and patched it in this new release, so upgrading is to be taken at your own risk and may stop you from jailbraking until the Dev-Team work it out.

Developers Continue To Fight Piracy

As the iPhone user-base increases, so does the piracy user-base of iDevices. Many developers have been or are now implementing features to stop piracy of their apps. You will have read how BeejiveIM stopped working for pirated copies, now Spokko, the makers of Light Wars have also implemented a feature that stops pirated copies from working.

Spokko Pirate Version

This has only been implemented into the new update but from what I know the original 1.0 release will not stop pirates using it, it’s interesting to see how developers are taking different methods to stop piracy.

Stack v3 Alpha Review Coming Soon

If your an iPhone owner you will of most likely have heard of, or used one of Steve Troughton-Smith’s app’s at some point or at least heard of them. He was the one who worked out how to tether the iPhone months ago.

He currently has 6 projects listed on his official website some of which are App Store approved, others are available via Cydia, however a project he’s been working on a lot recently is the Stack app, which gives the iPhone and dock like Stack feature. The new v3 has a lot of things to look forward to and the early alphas are promising, I’ve got hold of the alpha earlier and will be writing up a full review over the weekend.

iPhone 3GS Jailbreak & Unlock Coming Soon

The Dev-Team announced today that the 24Kpwn exploit that the hybrid team used on the iPod Touch 2G, is still Jailbrakeapplicable to the bootrom of the iPhone 3GS, therefore meaning the same sort of technique can be used as current jailbraking tools such as redsn0w.

The good news is also ultrasn0w can used used on the iPhone 3GS, without any modifications.

Apple are still continuing there effort to fix these flaws in the iPhone which allow for jailbraking and it will take a while for the Dev-Team to safely work out the new efforts made by Apple, ready for the new tools.

How To Fix Cydia Problems in 3.0

Some of those who jailbroke 3.0, much like me may have experienced some problerms with Cydia, most of them will be Jailbrakesmall glitches which will be fixed in an update but for some you may have experienced this whilst trying to install Cydia downloads.

Cydia Error

Even though if you got this things normally still installed without a problem it was annoying having to go through this everytime you download and install something however there is a fix.

As this seems to only occur when you install All Sources from Steffwiz, uninstall it and the sources will still remain but the problem seems to go away.

The Dev-Team Have Jailbroken 3.0 [Updated]

For all those who updated the iPhone/iPod firmware to 3.o, like me, many of you will be waiting for a jailbrake for the JailbrakeiPhone Dev-Team. They have jailbroken the firmware, as they did the Beta’s but are trying to sort out some deep issues with the YouTube app, however as they stated on their blog:

“we’ll try our best to get it fixed but we may end up releasing a preliminary jailbreak in which YouTube doesn’t work for hacktivated devices, and then follow that up with a more complete jailbreak when we can.”

According to the Dev-Team’s blog however the YouTube app problem only affects those who unofficially activated their device, so for all the rest the more complete jailbrake wouldn’t be necessary.

The release of the tools to jailbrake the devices should of been released soon after Apple’s release of 3.0, however due to these completcations they should be releassed later today along with ultrasn0w. For those who have gotten a iPhone 3G S, you will have to wait a little while longer for the jailbrake.

iPhone Idea: Audio Surf iPhone

Audio Surf is a Windows game that makes completely unique levels for the user. Using music on the players computer it analyzes it and creates the track accordingly giving it endless possibilities. It would however only work using iPhone OS 3.0 as it would need access to the users iPod Music and using the improved graphics chip, could give some amazing graphics.

To control the game you would tilt the device, using the accelerometer to control the ship. You could challenge friends using the notification system and submit scores to online leadboards. This game would work great on the new iPhone OS, just hope someone makes it.

Jailbrakers Should Wait To Install iPhone OS 3.0

JailbrakeAs a jailbraker myself, although upgrading to iPhone OS 3.0 on Wenesday might seem like a great thing to do just wait until the Dev-Team have sorted out a jailbrake even though I doubt it will be long as they have a jailbrake for the Beta firmware.

Best idea is wait till the Dev-Team have released the jailbrake and then update to the new iTunes and install the new firmware.
